Hidden stars on your doorstep

 

I don’t know about you, but as a small business owner I’ve repeatedly found myself in that age-old scenario which, having spoken about it to countless people, seems to be quite common.

The scenario is this. A small business owner expands their business to the point whereby their workload has significantly grown – arguably to the point that is unmanageable – and they require specialist help. As a result, they work longer hours doing the things that they’re not suited to and don’t particularly enjoy. Of course, what they probably need to do is employ someone, but they can’t afford the time let alone the money to find the right person. And so it goes.

The reality is that when it comes to SMEs in need of specialist support it’s either all (full time) or nothing (burning the candle at both ends and losing sight of why you went into business in the first place!). And, from my experience, the current part time work landscape doesn’t necessarily lend itself to the skillset often required by businesses to fill the gap in-between.

Businesses flex up and down. Workload increases and decreases. Very rarely does workflow remain constant. That would be too easy. So, what’s the alternative? Is there an alternative? And, if so, how far away or accessible is that alternative?
